Very Rare 1940's Bakelite Shade Anglepoise desk lamp in original condition.
This Herbert Terry Anglepoise desk lamp - Model 1227 with rare brown bakelite shade. They were produced in limited numbers after WWII. These do not come to market very often and are highly sought after. Immediately after World War II there was a shortage of aluminium so the english company, Herbert Terry & Sons for a very short period of time used bakelite which could be easily moulded into the required shape,This was soon abandoned as they were found to be brittle and often cracked or shattered in transit, consequently, very few of these 1940's 1227 model Anglepoise Lamps with their bakelite shade have survived. This one is very original the bakelite shade has no chips, but one small crack buy the lamp holder, "crabtree" bakelite bulbholder and and new inline switch has been added.
The original capped springs are included but are quite worn.
All lamps for use in the UK are PAT tested prior to dispatch.
