Early Hadrill & Horstmann ‘Pluslite' table lamp with magnifying glass designed for map reading English 1940s.
This lamp was made in their London N2 factory before they moved the factory to Surrey.
This iconic lamp showcases British industrial design at its best and a real investment.
A RARE EARLY MODEL OF THIS CLASSIC BRITISH DESIGN.
British company Hadrill & Horstmann was an erstwhile contemporary of the famous Herbert Terry 'Anglepoise' lamp. Although less well known, it is arguably better engineered and more elegant. The counterweight allows the head to be precisely set in any position without the need for springs innovative Hadrill & Horstmann lamps were leading the way with lighting solutions during the early 20th century.
Early models evolved into what has become one of the most coveted industrial lighting designs of the 20th century, the barrel weighted 'Roller'.
This highly sought after superb piece of British engineering.
Excellent sympathetically restored condition, no non original parts, only lamp holder and rewired using period style fabric covered cable and inline switch. It has a triangular oblong counterweight which features only on the earlier models. It has its original magnifying glass lens but has quite a few scratches on the glass.
